The German businessman who bought Olimpija from Milan Mandaric continued: “When we secured the championship early, we knew what path we wanted to take and what our goal was. The team is strong enough to defend the national title at the moment. From the day we secured our participation in the Conference League, we also realised that the existing core needed to be upgraded in quality. This is essential if we are to compete with the best and withstand the tough pace of the European autumn.”

Adam Delius also responded to the accusations of some that Olimpija had increased the number of players in the summer, but not the quality of the staff. The president of the Stožice-based club disagrees. Moreover, Delius publicly thanked the club’s directors Igor Barišić and Goran Boromisa for their work during the transfer window.

“It is always very difficult to make the right decisions, because Olimpija is run in a deliberate way and not on the basis of emotions. Olimpija does not buy and sign players who do not add value, both on and off the pitch. This has always been and will always be one of our basic principles. I would like to thank our Director, Mr. Igor Barišić and Sports Director Mr. Goran Boromisa for a job well done, because they have succeeded in delivering on the values that drive Olimpija. We have put together a team for the 2023/24 season that will be the only one in the country ready for the rigours of league, cup and European competition. Our coach, Mr. João Henriques, leads the team calmly and consistently. Olimpija has benefited from his coaching experience, so we can say that both sides are very satisfied with the cooperation. Although we did not achieve our dream of qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League and Europa League, we are very, very happy with the Conference League.
